Oh, Mexico! 2010

Bahia de Conception

We went to Mexico this winter, drove down hauling our ’62 Cardinal travel trailer.  Our 2 year old is now a road trip pro and we have figured out her limits, when to stop, when to nap, when to buy new toys. We mostly drove up the Baja peninsula. She had a fear of oceans in Cabo, so we found a quite beach locale without waves and called it an Ocean Lake. She seemed convinced and we spent the afternoons collecting shells. We met lots of other 2 and 3 year olds on our journey. Other “only childs” whose parents were taking their first trip out of the country since having a child. All well-seasoned travelers pre-child, they were surprised to see us. We weren’t as surprised since we kept bumping into the like. We would spend large amounts of time with these people, our companions in travel and parenthood. We would each come away feeling more sure that we would be able to continue our lifestyle again, where we left off.

Camping on the Beach

Other than a traffic ticket, we had no flat tires and no illness. We carried toilet paper and hand sanitizer with us everywhere and diligently only drank or brushed our teeth with bottled water. We ate our own cereal for breakfast, had lunch in town and then cooked our own dinner (if travel time allowed) and in this way saved a lot of money on food. We had an excellent time. It was the peaceful, laid-back atmosphere that we hoped for, no drug cartels or such. The only problem was, we came home too soon.
