West Coast Road Trip ’09- Newport, Oregon

From Eugene, we had lunch in another cool little Oregon town, Corvalis, before heading to the coast. Unfortunately, we didn’t see much of it because it rained the whole time, but we did have one clear morning where we took advantage of the chilly beach and absorbed more ocean. We ended up at the very cool Newport Aquarium, which our daughter absolutely loved.

The exhibits were exciting, both indoors and outside. Outside, we were able to watch sea lions, seals and otters up close as they swam near the glass. While I prefer to see these animals in their natural habitats, since I will never scuba dive, this is the closest I will get to witnessing them underwater. And, of course, the kids are thrilled. The highlight is an amazing series of tunnels that you walk through with a variety of sea life above, and even below your feet.

My favorite was the jelly fish exhibit, beautiful creatures that I would never want to get that close to in the ocean.
