Stuck in Oakland- West Coast Road Trip ’09
Anyone who travels knows that there is always one day/week/incident that serves to test your travel endurance, push you out of your comfort zone, and annoy you thoroughly. We have hit our wall. The truck needed to be fixed and a one day job has turned into three. Without a car, our camper parked outside a friend’s house on a busy street, and a gimpy dog who can’t walk very far or take Bart, we were forced into a Motel 6. On the bright side, we get to watch television, but I would much rather be camping. This detour in our journey has taught me to really appreciate my camper. It’s small and cozy, and it’s our own space. I like waking up in the woods, or the mountains, or next to the lake, even in the desert or on the ocean. I like making tea and kicking it outside while I awake to the sunshine or clouds before cooking up a big meal for the fam. I also have come to appreciate my husband. Times like this bring us closer together because we realize how much we rely on each other. However, once again, we are in city, and I am longing for mountains and redwoods. The mechanic said we should have it back my late tomorrow. We will hit the road immediately in search of our personal oasis and avoid cities like the swine flu until we reach our Portland destination. Wish us luck!
P.S. my new favorite song- Portland, Oregon by Loretta Lynn and Jack White (of course).
