Love: The Ergo Baby Carrier

The Ergo Baby Carrier
There are plenty of baby carriers on the market, but my favorite is the Ergo. Although a big fan of the sling, especially when my daughter was a newborn, I still used the Ergo for when we went out hiking, wearing her on my front and using the newborn insert that you can buy separately. The best thing about it is that it is close to your body. With the sling, if you bend over, the baby dangles. No dangling here. The next best thing is the hip support so that all the weight is neither on your shoulders or just one shoulder. I also love that it is lightweight.
My husband really likes the Kelty external frame kid backpack now that she is bigger, but I still love to use my Ergo. Granted, the external frame keeps you and the kid from sweating on each other (which is more of a problem for my husband), but it is much more weight to carry around.
The Ergo is especially great for travelling. If you know you’re going to go hiking wherever you end up, you don’t want to haul a big pack around when you have enough to pack. Also, the Ergo can carry a six year old, as well as, a baby.
As you can see in this photo, I pinned a small peice of fleece to the outside so that the head cover (that snaps over the baby’s head) has additional coverage for rain or snow or wind or cold. It worked great.
